Jessica Magonet

Staff Lawyer

Jessica Magonet (she/her) is a staff lawyer in WCEL’s Access to Justice program. She is a white settler of Italian, Irish, and Jewish ancestry. Jess grew up in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal and now lives on Coast Salish territories. She graduated from McGill’s Law Faculty in 2015, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Sustainable Development Law and Policy. From 2016-2018, she clerked for Justice Karakatsanis at the Supreme Court of Canada. Jess is a passionate public interest lawyer, and previously practiced at Arvay Finlay, the BC Civil Liberties Association, and Prisoners’ Legal Services. As a student, Jess was a dedicated climate activist, and she is thrilled to be working at WCEL to advance environmental justice. Outside of work, Jess enjoys reading and writing poems, walking in forests, and knitting.
